Twiga walinzi or “giraffe guard” in Swahili, evokes both a feeling of strength and a responsibility towards protection and conservation of these incredible animals. Over the last 35 years, populations of giraffe in Africa have fallen over 30% - in fact, for every 3 African elephants left in the wild there is only 1 giraffe! Unfortunately, their plight is not well known.
As part of the Endangered Species Challenge, this piece has helped raise funds for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (giraffeconservation.org). This organization has teamed up with local and worldwide organizations in order to preserve giraffe throughout Africa.
In addition to standard prints, limited edition embellished prints are available for this piece. Embellished prints have embroidery added back to enhance the overall texture. No more than 50 will ever be made. As these are made to order, please allow 1-2 weeks for shipment.
