Mile 30: Teklanika River - Hand Embellished Limited Edition

from $138.00

Limited Edition prints are hand embellished by the artist to enhance the texture and depth of these remarkable pieces. Embroidery is added to selected locations where it will best highlight the details within the piece. These prints are limited to only 50 total. As these are made-to-order, please allow 1-2 weeks to ship.

Those who travel the Denali Park Road encounter a number of stunning glacially-fed rivers along the way. The Teklanika River is the first significant one visitors encounter!

At mile 30 you'll find a beautiful stop overlooking this massive braided river. The waters are cloudy and grey due to pulverized rock and sediment from the glacier that feeds it. As the sediments build up, they eventually choke the channels and cause the braids to change course. This gives the illusion that floodwaters can climb quite high, but in reality it's merely an effect of the glaciers grinding up the mountainsides upon which they travel.

If you travel through the area, keep an eye on the wide gravel bars where wildlife often roam!
