Fire on the Mountain - Fine Art Print

from $28.00

Fireweed (Chamaenerion angustifolium) is iconic throughout Alaska for its vibrant magenta hues that stand so magnificently against saturated green meadows. It is native to temperate climates in the Northern Hemisphere where it prefers slightly acidic open fields, pastures, and particularly recently burned areas. While not considered particularly palatable, young leaves can be cooked and eaten and older leaves make a particularly lovely tea.

Honey produced from fireweed is considered of particularly high quality!

This piece captures the beauty of one of the many incredible lookouts along the Glenn Highway in southern Alaska, just east of the Matanuska Glacier.
