The southern portions of the Alaska Range is studded with steep glacial valleys, and the East Fork River is a quintessential representative. The East Fork river originates from a large glacier and flows north towards the park road which crosses over the river at mile 43. This area of the park is filled with wide, open spaces, gravel bars, tundra, and glaciers at the headwaters. Grizzlies frequent the area and are often seen grazing on grasses and berries. When traveling along the park road, the East Fork River area makes a great stop for exploring sand bars, chatting with rangers, and enjoying vast, expansive views!
